Biography for

Tom Born

After he graduated from high school Tom set out for Defiance College, a small liberal arts college in the northwest part of Ohio. His plans were to become a science teacher. In his junior year he began taking art courses and switched to a Comprehensive Art Major, one of the best things he ever did in his life. This led to a career of 32 years teaching at Defiance High School from which he retired in 1998. He also taught art and photography part time at Defiance College and Northwest State Community College as well as adult education art classes. The things he loves the best are drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry making, and art history. He has worked for 14 years as a photographer for the Defiance Crescent-News, photographing new club officers, county fairs, train and car accidents, award winners, pageant queens, and much, much more.

Tom has been married for 35 years to his wife, Evelyn, and they have three children and two grandchildren. They enjoy traveling and caring for their pets. He is currently the president of his local photography group and a member of the Defiance Society of Artists. He is working on three book projects--assembling a book of his short stories and photographs, compiling another work containing photographs with short commentaries, and printing yet another manuscript which he has co-written and illustrated with his photos. He is also interested in firearms and shooting, astronomy, and science; but most of all, he loves photography.
