Biography for

Bob Dostal

After graduating from Brecksville Bob attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for two years. Then he took a year off from school and traveled around the country with his brother, Jack. They lived in Miami, Florida, Gunnison, Colorado, and Las Vegas, Nevada, working at various jobs along the way. Bob returned to Wake Forest after one year away eventually graduating with a degree in business administration.

While at Wake Forest Bob met his wife, Jean Elledge. They graduated together, and Bob was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army through R.O.T.C. at the same time. His first station was Fort Benning, Georgia, where he attended Army Infantry School and went through Jump School (Paratroopers.) His next assignment was at Fort Holabird, Maryland, for Army Intelligence School after which he was transferred to the Pentagon for the rest of his tour. For reasons unknown he stayed in the U.S. rather than going overseas to Vietnam or elsewhere.

After being discharged they traveled back to Brecksville and settled there for 39 years living in two different homes. Bob joined his father in a family business eventually becoming the owner and president. His wife became his business partner and co-owner. In July, 2005 they decided to sell their business and two years later moved to North Carolina near Winston-Salem. They enjoy attending many of the Wake Forest sporting and other events, and Bob likes playing tennis at the university's indoor and outdoor facilities.

Bob is quite active in the local tennis community. He is a board member of Winston-Salem Tennis which is associated with the United States Tennis Association. He volunteers to help with local tennis tournaments and is the "official" photographer for these events. Bob plays tennis several times a week and is a member of a senior USTA tennis team. He has also helped out as a volunteer in book drives for underdeveloped countries.

They have one daughter who lives in Denver, Colorado, with her husband and two children. Unfortunately, they don't get to see them often, but they always enjoy the times they do get together.

Both Bob and Jean enjoy traveling. They have been to England, Ireland, France, Italy, Czech Republic, Mexico, and Costa Rica. Bob has also enjoyed several hiking excursions with Tim Klodnick and friends. Over the years they have hiked down into the Grand Canyon and back out, taken a raft trip down the Colorado River, and hiked in Texas, New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada. Our most recent trips were hiking in North Carolina, Costa Rica, and Ireland.
