Biography for

Rosemary (Lid) Peck

After graduation Rosemary found an office job at a warehouse which sold Amana refrigerators and Motorola TV's and stereos in Cleveland. She then worked at Union Gospel Press and at the New York Life Insurance Co. in Cleveland. When she moved to Ashtabula, Rosemary worked as a bookkeeper for a Buick-Oldsmobile dealer for eleven years. Then she worked at Buckeye local schools as their payrooll clerk until she retired in 2003.

In April, 1963, while visiting her aunt and uncle in Ashtabula, she met Roger W. Peck, "the love of my life." On their very first date he took her for a ride in a Cessna "172" single engine airplane and that began their "romance that was in the clouds." They were married and she moved to Ashtabula, becoming a stepmother of four children. She now also has nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren whom she thoroughly enjoys!

She and Roger have traveled to many Civil War battlefields and historic places. These travels have led to an interest in horses. When hunting in Wyoming and traveling out West, they almost purchased a lodge near the east entrance to Yellowstone Park. On their return, her husband bought a horse which they boarded at a local stable. Then, when learning to ride, Rosemary fell in love with a palomino which they also purchased. They bought a place of their own, the "Quarter Bushel Horse Farm" and later bought two registered quarter horses which they showed in local shows. The first horse her husband bought was amazing at pivoting around in a circle and won them many ribbons in the key-hole races.

Because Rosemary has loved carousel horses ever since she was young, she joined the National Carousel Association which raises money to ensure that carousels are properly maintained and supported. She has traveled throughout the country, attending conventions and visiting carousels.

After moving to Ashtabula she began painting. Now she teaches tole painting twice a week and shows her work in fairs and art shows; and she is currently writing a children's book.
