Biography for

Victor McCloskey

Vic attended Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, for two years in a pre-engineering program and then transferred to Fenn College (now Cleveland State) to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was elected to Tau Beta Pi national engineering honorary. While at Mount Union he met Sarah Solt, whom he married after graduation and with whom he has shared his life for the past 44 years.

Upon graduation, Vic joined the York Division of the Borg-Warner Corp in York, Pennsylvania, which was later spun off as the York International Corp. He completed the graduate engineer training program and started as an application engineer in the Engineered Systems Division. The most notable project that he served on as application engineer was the central cooling plant for the World Trade Center in New York City, the largest single refrigeration plant in the world at 49,000 HP. He later became a sales engineer in Detroit, then District Sales Manger, and later Regional Sales Manager for Automotive Sales. He transferred back to York, Pennsylvania, to be national marketing manager for air conditioning, later adding the responsibilities for sales and service as Vice President. Vic completed his career as the Vice President and General Manager of the Engineered Systems Division where he was responsible for 4,500 employees in seven different plants and sales offices throughout the country. He was very involved in the air conditioning of the Chunnel connecting Great Britain with France. Late in his career he was involved with re-establishing air conditioning at the World Trade Center following the first bombing, which took place directly above the cooling equipment facility. Fortunately, he was retired prior to 9/11 when that same equipment had to be removed after the rubble was cleared away.

Vic and Sarah have a son and daughter and two grandchildren, ages 2 and 4, who now occupy a wonderful part of their lives. When they are not involved with the grandkids, they spend time on their boat, which they cruise annually to Florida and winter aboard. Boating, fishing, kayaking, and working in the yard seem to fill up a year. In addition Vic is involved with a local food pantry, where he quarterbacked a significant addition to the facility. He is also the Board President for Hoffman Homes for Youth, a mental health facility in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
